Hamas terrorists are still attacking southern Israel, with more rocket attacks last night and again this morning. Egypt, meanwhile, is trying to act as mediator between Hamas and the Israelis.
Palestinian terrorists have attacked southern Israel twice this morning with Kassam rockets. One of the attacks resulted in a fire and residents are yet again confined to bomb shelters. Hamas also hit southern Israel late Sunday night. Many Israelis in the western Negev have already been forced to flee their homes, after eight years of Hamas attacks.
This morning one of the Hamas missiles exploded and set fire to a cactus field. The same area was also attacked just before midnight, again with a Kassam. The Sha'ar Negev region, close to the town of Sderot, has also come under attack.
Even as Hamas continues to attack southern Israel, though, the terrorist group is also in talks with Egypt, which is acting as a go-between. Israel and Hamas cannot talk directly as Hamas denies the very right of Israel to exist, and the group has
stated that it is dedicated to the destruction of Israel.
Israeli Knesset Member Yuval Steinitz (Likud), former chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, has charged that "tit-for-tat" responses by the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) are equivalent "to punching holes in the sand." The Likud has called for the IDF to remain in Gaza and continue to attack Hamas in order to topple the Hamas terrorist organization's grip on the area.
