By Richard James.
It was reported that two convicts in the French town of Moulins have escaped from prison on Sunday afternoon with the use of explosives.
It appears that the fugitives have taken two hostages with them.
The hostages are thought to be prison guards. This was reported by French media sources.
The prisoners have blown off the doors to the visitor’s room and then grabbed the prison guards.
The guards were threatened with firearms and forced to open the exit doors. The criminals in question are described as particularly dangerous. Both were serving long prison sentences.
The men sped off in a car with the hostages and managed to shake off offices who gave chase.
A special unit of the French police is engaged in pursuing the two escaped convicts.
The prisoners exchanged vehicles at least twice and escaped in a northerly direction.
The last time that prisoners tried to escape from Moulins prison was in 2003. The last successful attempt was in 2002 using a helicopter.
