Clark Rockefeller is planning to use insanity as a defense at his trial for allegedly kidnapping his 7-year-old daughter. Rockefeller's lawyers filed notice in court Friday, three days after Rockefeller rejected a plea deal.
The notice does not specify what kind of mental illness Rockefeller will cite. It says only that he will rely on a defense of "lack of criminal responsibility" for his conduct because of a "mental disease or defect" at the time of the alleged crime.
Rockefeller's real name is Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter. The German national moved to the United States in the late 1970s and used a string of fake identities.
He allegedly snatched his daughter during a supervised visit back in July, and the pair were found in Baltimore.
