A twenty-eight year old bartender in Berlin has been charged with manslaughter after having allowed a teenager to drink forty-five shots of tequila.
This was reported by the Justice Department in the German capital on Wednesday.
The bartender was engaged in a drinking contest with the sixteen year old victim and four other males in the ages between seventeen and twenty-one.
However, the bartender only pretended to drink the tequila whereas in reality he was mostly drinking water during the hour long session.
The youngest adolescent went into a coma and died four weeks later due to alcohol poisoning. The four other participants are also being charged.
The bartender, Aytac G. said: “I regret the drinking contest. I am responsible for his death. I have been irresponsible with regard to my duty as a host.”
He also said that he could not imagine that a teenager would be able to drink so many glasses of tequila. He said he assumed the youth would at most be able to drink ten or twenty glasses.
