The German artist Wolfgang Mueller is currently in the process of copying each of the 873 paintings by Vincent van Gogh.
So far he has completed five hundred works by the Dutch painter.
In the Forum centre in Duisberg there will be an exhibition of his Van Gogh imitations.
Mueller commenced his life’s work seven years ago. He says that he feels connected to Van Gogh en wants to record the painter’s works that are spread around the world and show them for the first time in one place.
Viewing the original Van Gogh paintings is a labour of love. His paintings are spread out over more than hundred museums in twenty-seven countries on five continents.
According to Mueller he, like Van Gogh, knows what it is like to create art under difficult circumstances.
He grew up with seven brothers and sisters, ran into trouble at school and, being an autodidact, he started out as a pianist and composer. In 2001 he took up the painter’s brush.
The imitation Van Goghs are on show in the German city of Duisberg until the 21st of February.
