Author Neil Gaiman has been awarded the 2009 Newbery Medal for his children's book The Graveyard Book. The English-born writer makes his home in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Neil Gaiman, who started as a writer of comic books and has written novels for people of all ages, has won the 2009 Newbery Medal. The Newbery Medal is awarded annually by the American Library Association for excellence in children's literature.
His winning book, The Graveyard Book is described on the ALA website as "a delicious mix of murder, fantasy, humor and human longing, the tale of Nobody Owens is told in magical, haunting prose."
Gaiman is also the author of Coraline which has been turned into a movie directed by Tim Burton
