Michael Phelps, the US swimmer, has been suspended for a three months, as photographs of him smoking cannabis appeared on various media. The swimmer recently won eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics.
US swimmer Michael Phelps has been suspended for three months by USA Swimming.
The swimmer who won eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics, has been seen smoking cannabis recently as some photographs started spreading in the media.
While clarifying their decision, the USA Swimming reportedly stated that even though Phelps did not violate any anti-doping rule, the organization was interested in sending out a strong message. The organization also said the ace swimmer had disappointed many people.
Phelps won no less than eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics and according to various media houses had been one of the greatest athletes of all time. The detailed reports pointed out that the suspension on the swimmer would end in due course while offering him enough time for preparing for the US Championships. The championships, according to various reports, would begin on 7 July. The championships, it has been further reported, would act as a trial for the World Championships in Rome just after two weeks.
Earlier, some photographs started spreading through various media showing the 23 years old ace swimmer inhaling from a type of glass pipe that are used to smoke cannabis.
