Jessica Simpson is in the spotlight this week for being too "curvy" following a recent country music event in Florida. Some blame it on the jeans; others, the camera guy. The girl still looks fantastic despite the jealous attacks on her trunk.
Celebs always seem to be in the offstage spotlight when it comes to issues regarding their weight and dress, especially when they are women and have at any point in their careers been seen in a pair of bun-huggers of some sort as a size "0." But when the paparazzi and critics begin their blasting of these stars for healthy weight gains and maybe misguided fashion choices, is it really fair to call them names?
Jessica Simpson has seen a lot of time in the media for her multi-tasking abilities in both acting and singing. The 28-year-old actress from Texas started young with her first album being recorded in Gospel music when she was in high school. Several of her hits made it to the top 20 and one debuted at number 6 out of 200 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart.
Playing a great Daisy Duke in the 2005 release of The Dukes of Hazzard, her tiny, yet firm and round backside gained the attention of Hazzard fans from across the globe. However, during that time, her personal trainer, Mike Alexander, lived with her for months monitoring her food intake and daily fitness routine.
He has obviously been a staple in the star's life, with the 5 foot 3 inch (yes, she is below the average height of an American woman) using him to help her take off some additional weight back in 2007 when she, uh, tipped the scales at 124 lbs! At 5 ft 3 inches, an ideal bodyweight would still be around 128 lbs (or around 58 kilograms).
Over the past week, Ms. Simpson has been on headline news and in the entertainment media about how she has let herself go or gotten chunky. Even today, the Daily Mail has Jessica in the lead story for Femail because of her curves.
Lets face it, the girl looks better than the average American woman (or any other country for that matter) whether she is flaunting a very unhealthy 110 lbs or at a more healthy weight which supports the functions of a females body.
Overweight? Hardly!
Supporters of Simpson's new body are ex hubby, Lachey, Kim Kardashian and even supermodel Heidi Klum. Family members have said that she doesn't weigh much more than before and that the national attention over her weight is mainly because of bad camera and bad fashion decisions. Her own trainer was said to view her weight as more healthy.
The girl is gorgeous. Marilyn? Beyonce? They all boast some pretty bodacious body parts, so whats the deal with this Southern Bell's curvy bum? And it makes this writer wonder, had it not been for her baring her "junk" in a skin tight bikini during the Hazzardous days, would anyone be so critical of her curves and these great 60s throwback jeans?
Once again, exploiting the perceivably negative in relation to perception seems to be the determining factor for some. I'd like to see what the camera man or woman looked like the day those pics were taken. Maybe we should listen to one very wise woman who knows a thing or two about weight and height at about 5 ft 6 inches and under 100 lbs who ended her career:
"You can't be a clothes hanger for your entire life!"
