It's official. California's supreme Court will hear the case about the legality of "Prop 8" next month, on March 5th. Prop 8 is the recently passed law, financially backed by the Mormon church, which removed marriage rights from Californians.
The
San Luis Obispo Tribunel has a short piece on this (see link).
Both defenders and opponents of Prop 8 will be watching this one closely. The justices will have to decide if the law unfairly writes discrimination against a specific class of people into the California State constitution. A lot of eyes will be on this case across the nation, and both sides vow to continue to the fight regardless of the outcome. Regardless of the Supreme Court's ruling, the losing side is sure to attempt further legal maneuvers via the legislature.
I know this is a contentious issue for many. I'd be interested in a spirited debate in the comments section on this, but please, avoid personal attacks.
