A 39-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly spying on a neighbor girl after installing a wireless camera in the girl's bathroom.
According to Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel, Steven Keller made friends with his neighbor by offering to do some work on his car.
Then according to police he sneaked into the bathroom that was primarily used by the 10-year-old daughter and installed a remote surveillance camera and began recording her.
When the parents discovered the battery-powered camera in the bathroom they called the police. They told the police they suspected Keller because of the unusual interest he was taking in their daughter.
Hackel said Keller seemed to know why the police had come to his house. He admitted to installing the device above the door of the girl's bathroom and wirelessly connecting it to his digital video recorder and television.
A search warrant was obtained and Keller was arrested at the home he shares with his brother. According to Hackel they recovered "one of the largest collections of porn our detectives have ever seen."
Hackel said "I'd never thought I'd have to warn people to keep an eye on what's around your own house. Just when we think we've seen it all, something like this comes up that's completely off of our radar."
Keller was arraigned in 42-1 District Court in Romeo Michigan on several charges. The charges included a count of home invasion in the second degree, a count of surveillance of an unclothed person and a count of eavesdropping, the sheriff said. The charges are all felonies and the home invasion charge carries a penalty of 15 years in prison.
His bond was set at $150,000 and he remains in the the Macomb County Jail.
Heckal said as detectives continue to investigate there could be more charges brought against Keller.
