article imageProtester throws shoe at Chinese Premier Wen at Cambridge

By Chris V. Thangham     Feb 2, 2009 in Politics
It is another shoe-throwing incident. This time a shoe is thrown at the Chinese leader Wen Jiabo at Cambridge University in England. Like the incident against Bush, it missed.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao was making a speech at the Cambridge University in England, when he was briefly interrupted by a protestor. The man threw a shoe at Mr. Jiabao and shouted, “this is a scandal.”
The shoe didn’t reach the Chinese Premier and it fell short at the platform.
The protestor, a Westerner in a T-shirt told the audience as he was escorted out by the security staff:
"This dictator here, how can you listen to the lies he's telling? You are not challenging him."
He also whistled as he was escorted and shouted “stand up and protest” but the audience was upset with his behavior told him “shame on you”.
Jiabao was unfazed with the shoe-throwing incident. He rebuked the protester briefly and continued with his speech. He was received with warm applause from the audience, mostly Chinese students.
This incident follows the shoe-throwing incident against George Bush in Iraq.
