Nancy Pelosi once referred to the GOP as having a "Culture of Corruption". To hear the Democrat Speaker, the party of condom trees, tax evasion, vehicular manslaughter and Oval Office oral sex, paint Republicans as all corrupt, would make a cat laugh.
Well, the sun rose is the East this morning, water was still wet, and another Democrat has joined the Culture of Corruption. In the heralded era of "Change", Tom Daschle apparently proved himself to be more of the same 'ole. While the crusteaceous Senator from South Dakota is no stranger to illegality, one would think that in age of purported transparent government, Daschle would have at least paid his friggin' taxes.
What makes Daschle's tax evasion so special, is how many taxes he has voted to raise. We suppose it is why Democrats love taxes so much; they don't pay them. Coming on the heels of last week's Senate confirmation of another admitted tax evader, Daschle's hundred thousand dollar "oversight" should send alarm bells clanging into the night. But this column found the story at the Wall Street Journal online, and even then it was buried as part of a Friday evening news dump. We suppose the warrant for tax evasion will be sworn out on Monday.
Tom Daschle was at one time the Senate Majority leader for the Democrats. He had the best of both worlds; lobbyists bearing gifts, and committee control. Propped up by a fawning and kneepadding media, he ran roughshod over legislation authored after 9-11, based solely on partisan lines. Daschle was so partisan, that any written proposals with the letter "R" in it was shut down on principle. Recklessly liberal as he is effete, the dwarf-like South Dakotan was always "saddened" by Republican recalcitrance, even after refusing to allow the simplest bill to leave committee that might have been authored by a Republican. This type of partisanship and lawbreaking being added to the Obama cabinet is not Change, it is business as usual for the Democrats, it seems.

So with two tax evaders in Obama's cabinet, what can we expect next? Bill Ayres for Education Secretary? Tony Rezko for Housing and Urban Development? Attempts at humor to be sure, but the fact remains there are two people as part of America's upper management, who knowingly broke the law, made lame excuses for it, and were rewarded (or will be) with Cabinet Posts. No punishment, no jail, no attorney's fees, none of things that would happen to you or I for doing the same thing. Instead, they will get cars with drivers, on YOUR tax dime, media-love, and the haughty self righteousness that comes from being a Democrat appointed and confirmed Cabinet member.
