In Japan, your blood type means “everything.” They believe that your blood type will determine what type of person you are and what life you will have.
If you are in Japan, you could possibly have been discriminated against and not have known it. At the same time, employers may have discriminated against employees and not know it themselves. One could ask: How is this possible?
In Japan, there is a phrase called: “What’s your type?”
This is in regards to your blood type. You have either B, O, A, AB, or Bombay Blood. For those that do not know what Bombay Blood is, it is the type known as HH. It is a highly rare blood type. In that respect, Bombay Blood people that need transfusions are pretty much screwed.
So far, the aspect of blood type is definitely the craze in Japan. A good portion of Japan’s top selling books are about the link between a person’s blood type and personality.
It seems that the Japanese public is taking his very seriously. Even some of Japan’s politicians are taking this seriously. Some of Japan’s companies take blood type into consideration in regards to assignments, promotions, hiring, etc.
This is where the discrimination part comes in.
Some schools have divided up students because of blood-type. This also applied for the women’s softball team in regards to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. So far, this is proof that they are taking blood types seriously. Perhaps they are taking the concept of blood types a wee bit TOO SERIOUSLY.
So far, warnings on discrimination have been made. Not many have heeded those warnings. Junichi Wadayama of the Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Labor explains that this will lead to more discrimination at the workplace.
Satoru Kikuchi of Shinshu University says that the craze of blood types is nothing more than a sham and a ploy. He says: “The idea encourages people to judge others by the blood types, without trying to understand them as human beings. It’s like racism.”
From the information gathered, it would look at Wadayama and Kikuchi have made very strong and valid points. The idea of links with blood types originated from Nazi Germany during World War II. Japan was one of the three countries that made up the Axis Powers. Germany and Italy were the other two countries part of the Axis.
Overall, it seems that people across Japan are judged by what their blood types are. In Japan, your blood type can and will dictate just about everything in living your life. So far, there seems to be little on what people with Bombay Blood are considered to be.
