Personal and national security is important. No one knows when someone will try to get past protection to sensitive material.
They can get to it easily on computer discs, even when folks have deleted their files. Discarded computers may retain information on the hard disc. That’s why having ways of protecting computers and destroying information when they are discarded is so important. It’s particularly important to do so when computers have been thrown away without erasing the hard disc, which many people don’t do; but even that isn’t enough. The government has places where people can get information about
cyber security.
It’s hard to get the
data out of a computer. Even with special programs, there are folks who can get almost to the core and extract what they want. Information stays on the hard disc in spite of recommended
security protection recommended.
Hackers are clever and can get at high profile information as they did with International Money Fund in November. So it is likely they have clever ways to get to information that is on discarded computers.
So what do experts recommend to do about this security problem? Violent methods are useful, they say. A pick axe with force behind it directed at the computer, a little force behind the hit has been tried but doesn’t do as well as fire or drilling. One fellow fried his computer with a blowtorch. Another took a drill to it. Both of these ways worked better than the pick axe.
Since a hard disc is difficult to completely destroy an expert recommends getting that old adrenal up and really going at it with force and violence of various kinds
