On the brink of extinction, Sumatran elephants are being bred at the Minas conservation area in the Siak District of Indonesia. A new baby elephant was born on January 9. Her name is Bubu.
Bubu's mother-29-year old Malina was pregnant for 22 months with the baby and forestry conservation division workers say they're having a tough time establishing her weight since mommy Malina is being extremely protective of her daughter.
With the birth of the baby elephant, the number of the endangered animals in Minas increased to nine. Child and mother are a wondrous sight to behold.
