article imageHairpieces For Dogs: Going Too Far?

By M Dee Dubroff     Jan 29, 2009 in Lifestyle
One California firm run by two sisters offers to prepare your favorite pooch for a night on the town with a range of hairpieces especially designed for animals. Read on, whether you prefer bobs, French twists or that old stand-by, the pony-tail.
Sisters Jenny and Crissy Slaughter hail from Santa Barbara where most things seem pretty normal. They have taken their childhood hobby of dressing up their dogs to a new adult level with the establishment of Total Diva Pets. This was the result of winning a 2007 doggy parade fashion show in which one of their dogs posed as a Playboy bunny!
According to Crissy Slaughter:
“For that year's parade, we really needed little blonde wigs for the dogs to play Hugh Hefner's blonde bombshell girlfriends. We couldn't find any dog wigs so we tried to use human wigs, but they didn't fit. We came up with our own creative design for dog wigs that turned out so cute. People began asking us where we got their costumes.”
And thus Total Diva Pets was born and now the sisters sell their wigs for $30 dollars. They have a wide range of designs; almost anything you can think of from an Afro to a green spiky punk wig. According to Jenny Slaughter:
“We realized that creating wigs made for pets was an unusual concept, and fun for everyone. We have evolved into a company that now offers eight pet wig designs, in five sizes, from Chihuahua size to Great Dane size.”
Well, all I can say is that if the world is going to the dogs, where should most of non-dogs us go and… do we need wigs to get in there?
Go figure.
