Op-Ed: Cindy Anthony Shouldn't be Blamed

By Lisa Lach     Jan 27, 2009 in Crime
Cindy Anthony called the police on her own daughter and launched a search for her missing granddaughter July 15th, 2009. Her only crime is standing by her daughter accused of her granddaughter's murder ...but wouldn't you?
Folks put the blame on Cindy Anthony for her "involvement in her daughter's Casey saga. I can’t see any guilt on the part of Cindy Anthony except for loving her granddaughter. Maybe putting a little too much faith in her own daughter maybe, but I know personally the love of grandmother while they are still young enough to enjoy their grandchildren is fruitful and precious. I bet a lot of single mothers would like Cindy Anthony as a grandmother.
Casey took that pleasure away from her own mother to spite her using her child. When she left home June 16th, 2008 the alleged date of the murder, she left while her mother was at work. Only allowing her father to say goodbye to his granddaughter unknowns to him for the last time ever. Casey made sure Cindy didn't get that chance. Another sick, jealous stab in the back of Cindy delivered by her daughter Casey.
The recent argument between Cindy and Casey prior to June 16th, is unclear. When Casey walked out that door with her daughter she did not go far. Her cell phone pings pin point her near where her daughters remains would be found six months later. She makes an array of phone calls to her mother and father and heads north assuming putting Caylee in the trunk of the car by then. Later that evening she arrives at her boyfriend’s house and for the next several weeks gave her mother the run around when she asked to speak to Caylee.
I’m sure Casey did not want her daughter, I’m sure she hated that she needed her mother’s help, and quite possibly hated the relationship she had with her daughter but for the life of me I can’t figure out how she could do anything to Caylee, feel no remorse and put her family through all of that. After taking no for an answer for way too long Cindy got inventive and opened up a "myspace" profile and posted the following:
She came into my life unexpectedly, just as she has left me. This precious little angel from above gave me strength and unconditional love. Now she is gone and I don't know why. All I am guilty of is loving her and providing her a safe home. Jealousy has taken her away. Jealousy from the one person that should be thankful for all of the love and support given to her. A mother's love is deep, however there are limits when one is betrayed by the one she loved and trusted the most. A daughter comes to her mother for support when she is pregnant; the mother says without hesitation it will be OK. And it was. But then the lies and betrayal began. First it seemed harmless, ah, love is blind. A mother will look for the good in her child and give them a chance to change. This mother gave chance after chance for her daughter to change, but instead more lies more betrayal. What does the mother get for giving her daughter all these chances? A broken heart. The daughter who stole money, lots of money, leaves without warning and does not let her mother now speak to the baby that her mother raised, fed, clothed, sheltered, paid her medical bills, etc. Instead tells her friends that her mother is controlling her life and she needs her space. No money, no future. Where did she go? Who is now watching out for the little angel?
Does this sound like she was involved in the murder or her granddaughter? I believe not.
Cindy sounds like a frustrated mother, that even in a surprise pregnancy her daughter brought her so much joy. But her limits were pushed and she showed Casey some tough love. Get your act together you have Caylee to take care of. Like a 16 year old, they more you want a child to do something the less they’ll do taking care of Caylee was not a priority. Finding a way to get to New York to be with her boyfriend Anthony was the plan. In her head Anthony was the one that would free her from her caged life in Orange Co., Florida.
The same day Casey Anthony posted on my space the following creepy words:
On the worst of worst days,
Remember the words spoken.
Trust no one,
Only yourself.
With great power,
Comes great consequence.
What is given,
Can be taken away.
Everyone lies.
Everyone dies.
Life will never be easy.
on the worst of worst days,
Remember the words spoken.
Hold your head high.
Love unconditionally.
Tomorrow is a brand new day.
