Former President Jimmy Carter told AP that Arabs soon will outnumber Jews in the Holy Land, and it would be better for Israel to include an independent Palestinian state.
Carter has written a new book, “We Can Have Peace in the Holy Land”. He talked about the book and Israel with the Associated Press.
He said if Israel aims for a one-state solution, it will be a catastrophic for them because there will only be three options:
a.) Ethnic Cleansing – Israel has to expel large numbers of Palestinians.
b.) Apartheid – Israel will deprive the Palestinians equal voting rights
c.) Majority – If Israel do gives voting rights to Palestinians then they will become the majority, which doesn’t bode well for Israelis.
Carter told AP that if the third case be the likely scenario then it spells trouble for the Jewish state:
The basic decisions would be made by the Palestinians, who would almost very likely vote in a bloc, whereas you would have some sharp divisions among the Israelis, because the Israelis always have different points of view.
Carter also wrote another book related to Israel/Palestine in 2006 titled “Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid” but received scathing criticisms from Jewish-Americans, who thought it unfairly compares Israel situation with apartheid in South Africa.
Carter believes the two-state solution is the best option in Israel, with Israel’s Arab neighbors recognizing Israel’s right to exist and Israel withdrawing from the land it captured in the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.
But will the Israelis and Palestinians settle for a two state?
