Cat Banned from Alabama Post Office for Not Paying Taxes

By Chris V. Thangham     Jan 15, 2009 in Entertainment
Alabama residents are protesting the ban of a cat from the post office for not paying taxes. After one customer complained that only taxpayers be allowed in the post office, they had to ban the cat from its premises.
The cat, nicknamed “Sammy”, has been lounging in the post office in Notasulga, Alabama for a number of years. But after one of the customers complained that the post office is a federal building and since he doesn’t pay taxes, he can’t be in the building, the post office had no other choice but to evict the cat from the premises.
Sammy doesn’t seem to bother customers; it only lies near the post office’s windows and sleeps.
Rochelle Langford, the postal worker is upset over this decision, but like other postal office workers she has no choice.
The customers are also upset and are protesting in front of the building. One of the protestors includes Pat Dye, a famous Auburn college football coach.
They have found a solution for the cat now -- they have set up a post box for “Sammy”. If you want to send your support for Sammy, you can send it to the below address:
Sammy the Cat
P.O. Box 173
Notasulga, AL 36866
The postal workers will let the cat in for now but will try to make sure he doesn't meet customer that don’t like cats.
