Michael Smith has been chosen by Michelle Obama to design the living quarters of the White House. Smith will meet with President Obama and his family in the next few weeks.
The first rooms that are expected to get the make-over treatment will be Sasha and Malia's bedrooms.
Smith has styled the homes of Steven Spielberg, Dustin Hoffman, Cindy Crawford and Michelle Pfeiffer. He is known for the airy modern way he incorporates antiques into his designs.
"I think what he manages to do is to create historically based rooms that make sense for how people live today," said Deborah Needleman, editor-in-chief of Domino magazine. "The rooms are very comfortable and airy and light, and I think it's very rare that someone does big important antiques in a way that feels very relevant for how families live."
Smith released a statement on Tuesday saying that he was happy to be helping the Obama's bring their own style to the White House.
