At least two people in a group of snowmobiles were swept away by an avalanche this afternoon at around 2:30p.m. near southern Chetwynd. As the police reports suggest one of the two is believed to be dead and the other being trapped. Local agencies quoting senior RCMP officials stated that the two were buried in a slide while snowmobiling with a group of people in a remote mountainous area situated in south of Chetwynd.
Reports stated that the rest of the group members are out of danger as per the police officials.
To rescue two missing snowmobilers, the BC Coroners Service, Search & Rescue as well as an avalanche technician have been rushed to the scene. According to further reports, the rescuers will not attempt any further effort till the dangerous nature of the avalanche subsides. The avalanche technician of the rescuing team has been closely monitoring the situation and would advice to start the rescue mission as soon as the area is deemed to be safe from the avalanche, stated the reports.
While pressed by the journalists the police however declined to name and any other detailed information as such, of the suspected deceased.
