In a world of surprises, this is a big one. Who would ever think a Republican female would endorse a high profile female Democrat?
One would hardly guess it of a high profile character. But that’s just what Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska, did today; she endorsed Caroline Kennedy for Senator from New York. It was breaking news this morning. Hillary Clinton will be the new Secretary of State under President-elect Obama in just a matter of days, and there has been great speculation about this. Now Caroline Kennedy has a brand new endorsement from someone many women might not expect.
Is this a political ploy, we ask? Balderdash, this is news. People have a right to choose favorites as the political scene has shown. The fact is that it’s true that many women icily hissed at Palin, the former Vice Presidential candidate on the ticket with John McCain, Senator from Arizona and rival for the Presidential post that Obama won. Will there be a change in opinion after this?
Governor Palin addresses the matter of experience in her public endorsement, a matter the Governor of New York might not accept. Palin was quoted as saying,
"In fact, I consider Ms. Kennedy qualified and experienced, and she could serve New York well
."She believes that Caroline Kennedy has the right set of qualities needed for the job as Senator from New York. Those of us who watch these matters, however, will want to stick around to see if Palin’s pick is right.
This is very special news and more on this is sure to follow the announcement. The television pundits like Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews may speculate about this.
This reporter will try to bring the updates when they happen. You betcha.
