Northern Territory police described as ‘plain stupid’ two Korean tourists who became stranded on a dirt road that was closed due to flooding.
The pair were making their way from Queensland to Darwin when they became bogged down in the Outback.
The major road leading into the Northern Territory has been closed off since last Saturday when a stretch of the road collapsed during heavy rain fall.
The two tourists decided to drive their Nissan van onto Rankin Road despite road closure signs and barriers.
Superintendent Porter said that the actions of the Korean tourists were irresponsible and that they placed themselves as well as rescuers at great risk. Police rescued the duo this morning after their car got stuck about fifty kilometres from Avon Downs.
According to Supt. Porter the tourists had been issued with a ninety dollar traffic infringement notice for ignoring traffic control signs.
