The other day just happened to be New Year's Eve so a friend and I decided to go and see the fireworks display here in Sydney Harbour.
To this end we walked to the ferry wharf as that is one of the best places to see the spectacle.
Upon arriving we noticed with glee that there were quite a few other people who had entertained the same idea. There were couples on picnic blankets, drinking wine and eating snacks they'd brought. Lots of young people having fun everywhere.
Howeover, there were also quite a few packs of young men from overseas who displayed that offensive and irritating tribal herd mentality I loathe so much.
'Some times it's hard to be a man', as the country and western song goes.
Men shouting and grunting, belching their way through the crowds, all the while revelling in the way they intimidate most other people. And, of course, they need to be drunk off their heads as soon as possible.
There's something so retrograde and chimplike about the way this type of male acts when they gather in packs. Talk about the baser instincts. Machismo? Give me a break..
