As Israel continues its offensive onto the Gaza Strip, it receives more worldwide condemnation. So far thousands in Lebanon and Turkey have protested.
So far, the Israel offensive into the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip will be one of the major international problems that United States President-Elect Barack Obama must face when assuming office. Obama will take office on January 20. On that same day, current United States President George W. Bush will officially leave office. On Day 1, Obama will need to bring his S+ game to the table.
There have been concerns that Iran, Syria, and Lebanon can be thrown into the mix. It has already brought forth Iran’s undivided
attention.
Concerns arise that the Hezbollah militants could fire rockets onto Israeli soil from the north. The Hamas leader in Syria called forth all Palestinians to rise up against Israel. There are some countries that could be catalysts that could combine the problems of Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, and India into one massive problem that engulfs the Middle East and South Asia.
Thousands
protested in Beirut, Lebanon and Ankara, Turkey. So far, Lebanon and Turkey have already demanded Israel to stop its offensive on the Gaza Strip. In Lebanon, police had to keep demonstrators at bay from the United States Embassy in Beirut. But that was not the only demonstrator.
On a scary note, a second protest took place in Beirut. It was a sit-in outside the U.N. building. So far, the protesters were those that supported Hamas and Hezbollah. Hezbollah is the Islamist militant group in Lebanon.
Thousands also gathered in Turkey to protest the Gaza offensive. In response, protesters would torch effigies of US President Bush and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. Remember, Bush leaves office on January 20. The question asked is: How will Obama tackle this problem?
Obama’s kept quiet. He said that there should only be one US President at a time. However, Obama is keeping a very close watch on the situation.
However, protests in other Middle Eastern nations took place. So far, the Middle East is definitely giving Israel is full condemnation. This could potentially one another issue that could potentially destabilize the Middle East.
In the case of Obama, perhaps he will need to bring more than just his S+ game to the table. He may have to step it up to an S++ or an S+++ game.
