Several thousand took to the streets of Montreal to protest the Israeli offensive onto the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. They have called on the Canadian government to call on Israel to stop the attacks.
So far, the Israeli airstrikes and the land offensive onto Gaza have brought forth much international criticism and condemnation. Days before Christmas, Hamas had announced the end to the shaky six-month ceasefire agreement with Israeli. Days later, Israel responded with airstrikes onto the Gaza Strip attacking Hamas targets. Hamas responded by continuing its rocket attacks onto Israeli soil.
The United States is firmly standing with Israel. It has urged Hamas to stop firing rockets onto Israeli soil. At the same time, it cautioned Israel to avoid civilian casualties. So far, there has been a mass protest on the streets of London on Saturday. The French government has already condemned the Israeli land offensive onto Gaza. King Abdullah II of Jordan said that it was unacceptable for the world to be “silent” on the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
The worldwide protests against the Gaza offensive continue. So far, there is a massive protest consisting of several thousand demonstrators taking to the streets of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The weather is pretty cold up in Montreal. However, the thousands are bearing it just to protest while marching towards the Israeli consulate.
They want the week of killings to stop at once. Canada should demand firmly and unhesitatingly that Israel stop its attacks,” said a dental student who was born in Gaza. He only gave out his first name which is Abdul.
“Israel has committed crimes that are illegal under international law. Canada must press for a ceasefire at the United Nations and with the United States, its friend and neighbor,” said Thomas Woodley, who helped organized the demonstration.
This protest comes after the ones on Saturday that took place throughout Canada. However, there will be more information in regards to the massive protest taking place throughout Montreal.
A friend in Montreal who is my source in the area is currently at the demonstration. He will be providing me with all the information along with pictures and footage of the protest.
Overall, the protests against the Gaza offensive continue.
UPDATE AS OF 6:13 PM EST
My source had just returned from the protest in Montreal. He gave me some interesting facts about the protest.
- According to he and his mother, there were between 8,000 to 9,000 people present at the protest that went down St. Catherine Street.
- A small group of Hassidic Jews also joined in on the protest against the Israeli offensive into Gaza. They had a small banner and they were passing out flyers.
- Most of the protesters held Palestinian flags. My source had spotted the presence of Iraqi, Lebanese, and Algerian flags as well.
