An extremely graphic video shows the horrifying aftermath of an Israeli air strike on a busy market in the besieged Gaza Strip. While many outlets purported the video to be from the recent clashes, it was actually video from a September 2005 bombing.
Editor's Note: Correction -- the story below discusses video of a bombing in Gaza purported to be recent footage leaked from an exiled Palestinian blogger. We removed the video from the site because YouTube removed it as well. The source was in error, because the video actually shows a mistaken bombing at the Jabaliya refugee camp, described as a bombing of a parade that killed at least 15 Palestinians.

Israeli diplomats and military leaders have painted a picture of a defensive operation against Hamas militants aimed at stopping retaliatory rocket fire into Israel. Since the Israeli invasion began with day after day of overwhelming aerial bombardment, we have seen many Israeli talking heads in the media speaking of how they are not targeting civilians, in fact, taking great care to keep from inflicting any Palestinian civilian casualties. They are precise pin-prick operations aimed at the Hamas terrorist infrastructure we have been repeatedly told, insisting that the falling steel is precise and discriminate. Even going so far as to say they are not only mindful of Palestinian casualties, but are in fact helping them by destroying Hamas, viewing them as victims of the militant group. This, despite Gaza's population of 1.5 million people packed in the most densely populated area in the world. Over 4.000 casualties have been reported including many children and women and nearly 500 dead since the onslaught began 9 days ago. Hopes for a cease-fire seem unlikely as the U.S has acted to block any U.N action t the U.N Security Council critical of Israel or even for a simple statement calling for an end to the fighting to be declared.
The U.S has given the Israelis the green light and repeatedly claims Israel's right to defend itself, despite gross human rights violations and despite the fact that it was Israel who violated the cease-fire agreement by assassinating 6 Hamas militants and refusing to lift the blockade on the embattled territory. the U.S has repeatedly blamed Hamas for ending the ceasefire despite this, even with Israeli politicians admitting the plan for invasion had been formulated up to 6 months ago. The fact that the Israeli elections loom in February and the historical precedent of Israeli politicians invading Lebanon and Palestine during election times to demonstrate their strength and improve their numbers is another example of Israeli deviousness and pre-planning disproving the claim it was a reaction to rocket fire. Furthermore, with President-elect Obama waiting in the wings and with clearly expressed distrust among some Israelis who questions Obama's level of support for the Zionist regime, it was an opportune time to invade at the end of the hawkish Bush regime's reign as they would be unlikely to offer the same resistance as an Obama administration - as has been proven by the complete support of the Bush regime for the Israel invasion thus far.
