Scotsman Andy Murray won the Capitala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi yesterday. He has trumphed over both No. 1 & 2 Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer to claim the title.
Andy Murray had a jubilant New Year beating Rafael Nadal in the Capitala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi with 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
On Friday, Andy Murray claimed a three-set victory over Roger Federer. He had never beaten the two World's strong men in the same event before. This indeed gave Murray a perfect start for the new season.
This was just an exhibition event, to promote tennis in the capital. The match has attracted 5000 capacity crowd and brought Abu Dhabi to the world tennis map. Abu Dhabi poised to make this event annually.
All six players who were invited to the US$250,000 (Dh918,260), winner-takes-all showpiece said they were enthralled by their first visit to the capital.
