A series of powerful earthquakes rocked eastern part of Indonesia on Sunday early morning. As reported by news agencies at least 4 people were killed and dozens left injured. Some of the injured are reported to be in a critical condition.
The earthquakes have reportedly caused massive destruction, as power lines were cut and huge buildings left destroyed. One of the quakes has been of a massive 7.6-magnitude tremor which was felt as far away as Australia. The tremor, as the reports suggest, sent small tsunamis even to the Japan's southeastern coast. Though, no report of damage in the Japan has broken as yet.
News agencies further clarified that there has been no tsunami in Indonesia's Papua region.
The first quake was felt at early morning on Sunday when it struck with a massive 7.6 magnitude. The quake, as stated by US Geological Survey, hit a region on land about 85 miles (135 kilometers) away from Manokwari situated in Papua, at a depth of 22 miles (35 kilometers). This first attack was followed by dozens of aftershocks. As the news agencies suggested at least four people died in Papua in this series of powerful earthquakes.
Reports added that the airport runway that was nearest the epicenter had been cracked in a major way. As a result all the commercial as well as passenger flights were canceled to the region.
