King Abdullah II of Jordan has given his criticism on the crisis that has stemmed in regards to the situation in regards to the Gaza Strip.
Days before Christmas, the Palestinian militant group called Hamas announced the end to the six-month ceasefire with Israel. The ceasefire was brokered by the Egyptian government. However, it was a shaky ceasefire as Hamas continued its rocket attacks onto Israeli soil. Days later, Israeli responded by a series of airstrikes.
People across the world condemned the airstrikes. Now, the airstrikes have been followed up by a land offensive by tanks and soldiers. France has recently condemned the land offensive.
For the people of Gaza, there was really no place to run or hide. Egypt has refused asylum to the Palestinians trying to flee the airstrikes. Isreal recently stated that those with foreign passports can leave Gaza.
King Abdullah II of Jordan is speaking out about the humanitarian situation in Gaza. He said that it was unacceptable for the world to be silent about it. Abdullah II said it to former British PM Tony Blair. Blaire is currently the envoy of the peace Quartet consisting of: the United States, Russia, the United Nations, and the European Union.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza has deteriorated in a way that silence has become unacceptable,” said a statement from Abdullah II.
“The international community should help end this tragedy and press Israel to stop its aggression and open border crossings to allow aid and evacuate the wounded,” he added.
