In an important development, a Taliban spokesman has been arrested by Pakistan on Saturday. The individual reportedly used to work for former fugitive Taliban leader Mullah Omar.
Pakistan arrested one of the former Taliban spokesmen on Saturday and claimed to have offered a huge blow to Taliban. The arrested man named Ustad Yasar, was arrested in northwestern city of Peshawar in the country. Quoting local officials news agencies reported that the authorities refused offering further details regarding the arrested spokesman.
Yasar, as it became evident later, was arrested once in Pakistan in 2005. Later he was handed over to the Afghanistan. However, Taliban mounted an all-out operation to rescue him from Afghanistan. As a result an Italian businessman was kidnapped and Yasar was released as an exchange for the kidnapped businessman.
Facing America's war on terror a huge number of Taliban officials fled from Afghanistan and took shelter in Pakistan. Using Pakistan as their base these fugitive Taliban leaders continued their guerilla warfare against the combined forces of US as well as NATO.
Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan experienced a steady decline in recent years as both the countries lodged complaints over their inaction in fight against the Taliban. Fresh allegations continued to fly against Pakistan as countries throughout the world stated that Taliban continued to regroup in Pakistani soil.
