A Polish woman has the rather dubious honor of being the second person to give birth on London's underground rail network since it opened 146 years ago. Here is her story, ready or not.
According to
news sources, Julia Kowalska was traveling with her sister on the network's Jubilee line last month when her contractions started. She got off the train at a station in the northwest section of London, but never made it to the hospital. Assisted by an ambulance crew, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl in the supervisor's office.
In its almost century and a half history there was only one other birth recorded on the 275-station underground network. It happened in 1924 when one Mary Cordery was born at Elephant and Castle.
Well, Mary, move over, and kudos to the ambulance crew who provided a safe delivery and a happy ending to this story.
