In the wake of the Israeli airstrikes into the Gaza Strip, it will be inevitable that this will be one of Barack Obama’s first international challenges once he takes office of US President.
On January 20, 2009, Barack Obama will officially assume the mantle as the forty-fourth President of the United States. It was a historical victory for the Democrats. It was also a major victory for the Democrats. On Election Day, Obama won a major victory over his GOP rival Senator John McCain of Arizona. But that was back in November. The US Elections are over.
Now comes the question: How will Obama handle being US President? We will not know until he actually takes office. Once he does, Obama will need to bring his S+ game. He will have to face numerous problems on a national and international level. One of his first international challenges would be peace in the Middle East. So far, it would seem that Obama’s chances are slim to none.
There is still fighting with Al-Qaeda in Iraq and Afghanistan. There is the combined problem of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. Now, there is the Israeli airstrikes into Gaza. This is something that could possibly throw Syria and Lebanon into the mix. The airstrikes into Gaza will be one of Obama’s first international challenges.
While Obama is vacationing in Hawaii, pro-Palestinian activists held a demonstration outside of his home. However, the demonstration was small as it was only made up of eight activists.
They want Obama to take a more active role. However, Obama has not said much. But, he is keeping a hawk’s eye on the conflict.
“
We feel there’s a great need for change. We need to stop giving Israel a blank check to do what it’s doing,” said Honolulu resident Margaret Brown. The demonstrators want the Obama administration to change the US policy towards Palestine and Israel.
Overall, it looks like Obama will need to bring forth his S+ game. The small protest in Honolulu is somewhat of a start. There is a possibility that more and larger protests could follow in its wake.
