A Palestinian mother went out of her refugee camp in Gaza in search for food for her starving children, instead was killed by the Israeli missile attack.
Sara Eid el-Hawajari, 55, did not want her children to go hungry. She was determined to get food from the outside despite the Israeli blockade. But she unfortunately went out at the same time Israeli launched its air strikes. Sara became one of the first victims of the air attacks.
Sharon Lock, an Australian community worker narrated this story. She stayed with Sara’s family on Friday night at the Jabalia refugee camp to comfort her grieving children.
Israel had stopped supplies of flour to Gaza and many in the refugee camp were running out of bread.
Lock said several people in the camp are desperate for food and that desperation led to Sarah’s death. Lock is a member of the International Solidarity Movement, which works with both Palestinians and Israelis.
Lock told Sydney Morning Herald that she was in the apartment, when the raids began. She said the schools were over at that time and she a number of panicked kids running up in her apartment.
Sharon Lock said locals have lost all hope after the attacks. They were hoping for an extension of the truce but instead they see it gone.
How many more Sarahs have to die before the Israelis and Palestinians will settle once for all?
