Toronto's gas prices are way down from last year but there's still a problem. With last weeks storm on top of storm finding a gas station with fuel is getting to be a little difficult.
The cost of
gas is running about 66 cents a litre in the GTA. Last year at this time it was $1.05/liter.
It may seem like a good thing that the costs are down but the overall economic sense is this is a sign of global recession.
The
storms aren't the only reason fuel is hard to find in Toronto. Imperial Oil Finch Avenue's distribution terminal had to be shut down for 36 hours last Saturday. A mechical problem at the loading rack prevented trucks from being able to pull in and fill up their tankers. That terminal supplies a third of the gas in the Toronto area.
Most stations carry about 36 hours worth of average sales in fuel.
Motorists that are able to locate gas though are enjoying a little less pinch to the wallet. In time most understand that the price will rise as it has in the past but those pumping this week have a little smile on their faces.
The
Globe and Mail reports:
“I can tell you that at one point it was costing me close to $100 to fill up my car and last time it was $67,” said Debbie Aarons, a human-resources consultant in Vancouver. “So in all this doom and gloom, there is money in our pockets and we are forgetting about that.”
