Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of former late-President John F. Kennedy said that if she will work twice as hard if she is picked to take the seat soon to be vacated by Senator Hillary Clinton of New York.
So far, it has been revealed for several weeks that fifty-one year old Caroline Kennedy has expressed interest in taking the New York Senate seat soon to be vacated by Senator Hillary Clinton of New York. Clinton will vacate the seat in order to take her post as the new US Secretary of State under the administration of President-Elect Barack Obama. Obama will take office on January 20, 2009.
Kennedy had given her endorsement to Obama during the Democratic Race. So far Kennedy says that she will have to work twice as hard for two reasons: the background and lack of political experience. Kennedy admits that she does not have that much experience in the field of politics. Plus, she admitted the expectations due to the family legacy.
She said: “I am an unconventional choice.”
However, Kennedy is not the only one interested in taking the seat. But, it will ultimately be up to Democratic Governor David Paterson of New York to pick who will fill Clinton’s Senate Seat. Paterson took over after former Governor Eliot Spitzer resigned in regards to a sex-related scandal. In regards to Kennedy, if she wants the Senate seat, she will have to fight for it.
In regards for interest in the seat, Kennedy cited two reasons: 9/11 and the campaign for Obama.
In respect to her family’s legacy, Kennedy said: “Many people look to me as somebody who embodies that sense of possibility. I’m not saying that I am anything like him, I’m just saying there’s a spirit that I think I’ve grown up with that is something that means a tremendous amount to me.”
Still, it is unknown whether or not Kennedy will get the seat. She has to deal with many formidable contenders for the seat.
So far, it may not be a repeat of the controversy that is going on in Illinois in regards to Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. Blagojevich is charged for trying to sell the Senate seat vacated by US President-Elect Obama.
