Hamas Militants intent on rocket and mortar attacks are now dropping shells in Gaza as well. Poorly aimed attacks on Israel fall to soon.
Hamas Islamic Militant groups are using less care in their attacks on Israeli targets and have unwittingly targeted a home in Gaza City. In the attack, a worker at a conflict resolution center was badly injured and two others were lightly harmed by the attack.
The origination of the attack made against Israel was for the deaths of three Islamic Militants who were planting explosives near the border fence between Gaza and Israel.
In a separate incident two militants were killed when an explosive device prematurely exploded.
The Israeli military said nine mortars and at least 13 rockets were fired at southern Israel early Wednesday. No injuries were reported. But near Gaza City, an explosion tore through a two-story apartment building, badly wounding Iyad Dremly, an attorney who works for the Palestinian Center for Conflict Resolution. Militants were firing rockets and mortars from the area, but the military said it did not carry out any attacks on Gaza, suggesting the blast was caused by misfired explosives.
Prior to the attacks, Israel had agreed to allow a limited opening of a border crossing to allow in food and humanitarian aid to Gaza. With the renewed attacks and shelling from Gaza, Israel has suspended those plans.
Israel has maintained a strict blockade of Gaza since the cease-fire began unraveling six weeks ago, allowing in only small quantities of essential goods. Egypt has similarly sealed its border crossing with the territory.
As a side note to the escalation of violence in Gaza I noticed that even during the truce, there were attacks from Gaza which always prompt a retaliatory attack from Israel. This cycle does not appear to be in the best interests of the 1.4 million souls who live in Gaza, and it would seem to not be a process which is likely to bring peace or prosperity to a region which was self supporting until the palestinian takeover.
