Sarah Palin was quick to assert that Barack Obama was consorting with extremists through his association with William Ayers. If that logic were followed now, one would wonder if Palin herself has been involved with drugs?
After all,the boyfriend of her daughter, Bristol, has a mother, Sherry Johnston, who has just been arrested for illegal substances. AOL reports that 42-year-old Sherry L. Johnston, 42, the mother of Levi Johnston, Bristol’s boyfriend faces six felony counts of "misconduct involving a controlled substance." That remote association of Sarah Palin and Sherry L. Johnston is closer than that of Ayers and Obama. It should, however, not be cause to suspect Palin of drug use herself, but again that logic was used by the Governor during her run for Vice President. Perhaps it is fair then that the issue be explored.
That notion of guilt by association was used destructively against Obama, but obviously didn’t work for most people since Obama was elected President of the United States. It turned out that Barack Obama knows William Ayers from participation on various community boards in Illinois where they both reside and were active in various causes. That didn’t make them close friends, according to Ayers, who only discussed the issue after the election. Even Ayers declared that he wished he knew Obama better, just as everyone else would want.
Now this new scandal shouldn’t reflect on Governor Sarah Palin at all. She didn’t choose the prospective mother-in-law nor is she responsible for Sherry Johnson’s behavior. But she used that guilt by association on Barack Obama and shouldn’t complain if the media mentions her name in the same sentence as Sherry Johnston, by way of identification.
Palin and McCain stood on political platforms everywhere with Palin’s daughter, Bristol, obviously pregnant. Declarations were made resoundingly that the young couple, Bristol and boyfriend, Levi, would be married soon. But Bristol is giving birth tomorrow before the projected wedding date. What unusual barriers might there be for the marriage not to have occurred prior to this? Why aren’t these questions asked by those who continue to support Palin and consider her a potential candidate for President in 2012 and who moralize about others?
Perhaps Palin opponents will remember Sherry Johnston in the future so if Palin again uses guilt by association to politically impale opponents, that name and relationship might be invoked as the means to stop the practice.
