The lowly Iraqi shoe that was thrown to the direction of US President Bush while attending the farewell conference in Baghdad is now worth over $10 million.
In a report by the Inquirer today said that “an Arabian newspaper reported that a man had offered $10 million dollars to buy just one of what has almost certainly becomes the world’s most famous pair of black dress shoes”
The shoe thrower, Muntadhar al Zeidi, an Iraqi TV Correspondent may now be $10 million richer (or even more) courtesy of George Bush. That is if he recovers the pair of shoes. It is not clear who is in possession of the shoes. It is possible the Iraqi Police kept it to be used as evidence in the investigations..
The shoe-throwing incident generated worldwide attention when members of media covering the conference captured the shoe-throwing incident on video and flashed on worldwide real time news alerts all over the world.
In Iraq and most part of the Middle East, the actual throwing and the “ducking” of Bush was shown every hour on most TV stations some of them were even in slow motion.
But critics in Iraq and other parts of the world hailed the throwing incident by al Zeidi saying that it was in protest of the Bush administration’s occupation and intrusion into the domestic affairs of Iraq while other moderates say that it was an uncivilized act and calling the incident a breach of respect of traditional Arab hospitality towards guests.
Earlier, the brother of al Zeidi named Durgham, said al Zeidi had a broken arms and ribs and cuts to his arms and eye. Iraqi Police has not yet confirmed the story.
Al Zeidi is presently under military custody and is awaiting trial. If he is found guilty, he will have to serve 2 years in jail.
