article imageJapan TV news reenacts US President Bush Iraq shoe-thrower incident

By Mark Weitzman     Dec 17, 2008 in World
Two Japanese TV news programs took a light approach to their reports on the man who threw shoes at US President George Bush in Iraq.
A newscaster at TV Asahi in Tokyo put on a face guard and chest protector and had shoes thrown at him. He clocked the speed of the shoes, and measured the distance – 4.5 meters – from the shoe pitcher to the "president". A camera mounted on the face mask recorded incoming footwear. The reporter commended President Bush on his ability to duck fast-flying shoes.
News Japan, an 11 p.m. newscast on Fuji Television in Tokyo, added holiday music and some special efffects to its video report. Click here to watch the News Japan video.
A news report on Fuji TV's sister channel Fuji News Network presented the shoe story without flourish.
