Apple Ditching Macworld After 2009

Apple announced it won't appear at future Macworld trade shows after its appearance in January. The company said trade shows "have become a very minor part of how Apple reaches its customers." Digital Journal -- In a move bound to send ripples through the tech market, Apple announced this year would be the last year the company will exhibit at the annual Macworld Expo. The last Apple keynote at Macworld will be held on January 6, presented by Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, Philip Schiller. Macworld is well known for exhibiting the latest and upcoming Mac products. According to a press release from the company, "Apple is reaching more people in more ways than ever before, so like many companies, trade shows have become a very minor part of how Apple reaches its customers." The company admits it has been scaling back on its presence at trade shows in recent years, including NAB, Macworld New York, Macworld Tokyo and Apple Expo in Paris. Here's an idea: Perhaps Microsoft would like to diversify its portfolio and appear at Macworld in 2010? Then again, the expo might have to be renamed Windowsworld. Or Microworld. Not quite as catchy, I guess.
