It has just been announced today that Caroline Kennedy was to be Senator from the State of New York, according to David Paterson at a news conference. Both he and Charles Schummer maintained that Kennedy is interested because she has been impressed with Barack Obama’s leadership.
This admiration for Obama’s leadership has been occurring for some time, as Edward Kennedy has been a strong supporter as have the Kennedys since January 2008, as reported by Politico in January 2008. Both Edward and Caroline Kennedy were seen frequently on the stump campaigning for Obama.
Caroline Kennedy was speculated by some bloggers to be the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, but that speculation ended when Susan Rice was appointed by Barack Obama to the post.

With Paterson’s announcement, it should be noted that few others have stepped forward to claim the seat left vacated by Hillary Clinton’s appointment to Secretary of State, to be part of President-elect Barack Obama when he takes office after his inauguration in January.
Caroline Kennedy will bring to the Senate, if she is picked by Paterson, a back of philanthropic services and the admiration of many for her hard work and dedication to public service, that has been a hallmark of the Kennedy name for some time. Her appointment is likely to captivate those seniors who recall her as the daughter of John F. Kennedy, killed so young by Lee Harvey Oswald, and her captivating smile as she rode her pony on family outings.
Caroline Kennedy has come a long way since then; and if she is appointed to the Senate, what might be next for her?
