A ten-month-old infant was killed Saturday, caught in the crossfire of a group of men playing dominoes. Derrick Days died in Miami.
A masked man jumped out of a white truck and opened fire on the men playing a game in Liberty City, Florida Saturday. It's not known where the infant was at the time of the shooting.
Two others were wounded during the gun battle.
The Miami police have confirmed that the mother of the infant is an employee of the police department. She works as a dispatcher.
The police are looking for the shooter as community activist seek to find a solution for the senseless violence.
CBS 4 reports:
"There should be some outrage immediately from the community and it has to stop," said Reverend Richard Dunn, a local activist. "If it jeopardizes even a life of an infant, a baby, it's totally unacceptable."
"Because somehow the message has to get out and we've got to try to reach our young men and tell, so much anger on the streets so much bitterness on the streets... most times it is due to some type of drug related incident and we just need to crack down on it," said Dunn.
Across the street from the shooting families had gathered to watch a Christmas play in one of the local churches.
If you know any information about this shooting please contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
