The remark from Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe in regards that the cholera outbreak being over was considered to be sarcasm.
As the cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe is getting worse, Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe certainly is not scoring any brownie points with the international community that wants to HELP. The international community had already condemned Mugabe and his government in the handling of the cholera outbreak which has claimed the lives of almost 800 people.
The United Nations believes that the cases of cholera could grow into the five-figure category. International leaders have already called Mugabe’s government ill-prepared and unfit to protect the people.
Not long ago, Mugabe had made a national broadcast that the epidemic was “over.” Many other people had different things to say. Mugabe said that the cholera outbreak was over and blamed Western leaders for using it as an excuse to send military troops into the country.
So far, a recent report said that Mugabe was being “sarcastic.” As a result, Mugabe has been accused of being insensitive. Mugabe had made a sarcastic remark in regards to the outbreak.
When Barack Obama takes office of US President on January 20, 2009, the cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe could prove to be one of his first international challenges. How will Obama react to Mugabe? We will find out once Obama takes office.
