United States President-Elect Barack Obama has not wasted time distancing himself from Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.
Not long ago, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was arrested on the charge of trying to sell the vacant US Senate seat left by US President-Elect Barack Obama for money. Due to the charges, Blagojevich has been under fire for the last few days. Obama vacated his Senate seat shortly after winning the US Presidency on November 4. He had won by a landslide victory over his GOP rival Senator John McCain of Arizona.
Two days ago on December 10, Obama had called on Blagojevich to step down from office. However, Blagojevich has brushed off Obama’s call to step down as governor of Illinois. Right now, Obama is not wasting any time in distancing himself from Blagojevich.
He announced that results of an internal investigation will be released. This investigation is to flag and point out connections and contacts between those working under Obama and those working under Blagojevich. So far, Obama has said he had nothing to do with the scandal. Prosecutors of the case also added that Obama was not involved in the scandal surrounding Blagojevich.
Obama said that the vacated Senate seat belongs to the people of Illinois. He has not wasted any time to weed out contacts between his people and Blagojevich’s people. What will the results turn? We will have to found out in the “next few days.” This is a sign that Obama is wasting no time to make sure he has no connections with Blagojevich. In the meantime, finding Obama's replacement in the US Senate will have to wait.
