A Florida woman found $97,000 in a bag in the restroom of a restaurant. She found the owner of the lost bag, an elderly woman, and returned all the woman's money and belongings.
The incident occurred in a Cracker Barrel restaurant; Billie Watts, 75, found a tapestry bag hanging from a hook on one of the bathroom stalls last week.
She opened the bag to find the name of the owner but instead found a number of stacked $1,000 bills totaling $97,000. She didn’t find any identification inside the bag so Watts called Cracker Barrel and left her number if anyone was wondering where the missing bag was.
An elderly woman called soon after and identified the contents in the bag correctly. Watts and the woman met, and Watts returned the bag.
The woman told Watts the money inside the bag came from selling her home and belongings. The woman wanted to start a new life in Florida with her son. The unidentified woman offered to give Watts $1,000 for the gracious act, but Watts refused according to The Daily News Journal.
Watts said the woman didn’t leave her phone number or her full name.
The Cracker Barrel restaurant spokesman responded and said they didn’t see either the money or the elderly owner. Police also have no report about the lost money.
