“Many families are finding themselves in uncharted territory for the first time, lacking the means to provide food, shelter and security for their children.” -“From the Desk of Dave Phillips”, Children’s Hunger Fund Website
Forbes Top rated 501c (3) Charity, Children’s Hunger Fund, has reported a need of more than $700,000 to meet the needs of families due in part to the recent “financial crisis” in the world
– And they are asking for your help.
“The last few weeks of financial crisis have thrown our country and the global economy into a state of uncertainty. While none of us are immune to the impact of this crisis, it will hit needy families the hardest. Many families are finding themselves in uncharted territory for the first time, lacking the means to provide food, shelter and security for their children.” “From the Desk of Dave Phillips”, Children’s Hunger Fund Website

During the Christmas season, Children's Hunger Fund (CHF) supplies local ministries with resources to help them connect with the poor and offer them the joy that the Gospel brings. Each year, these ministries reach out to the poor in their communities by holding holiday events. The food and toys they give out are used as tools to build relationships with needy families in an effort to address the deeper needs they may have.
Here's a story of children helped at one such holiday event Fred Martin, their Communications Director, shared with me:
In preparation for their Holiday Outreach in a local park, ministry leaders visited the apartment buildings nearby inviting everyone to attend. There they met Ervin and Pamela and their four children. Ervin had been out of work for six months due to an accident. He was desperate, angry and discouraged since he could not work. He and his wife would fight often due to the stress. While they told their story, Pamela began to cry.
She shared that she had no food to give the children. The furniture that they have was all found in the streets and washed so they could use it. She said they would have no tree for Christmas, no gifts for the children, and they would not be able to pay their rent. The ministry leader prayed for them and encouraged them saying, "Jesus can change your situation".
Pamela brought her children to the event the next day and participated in the fun activities and games. They went away with their arms overloaded. Pamela's family was overwhelmed by the generosity and love showed to them.
On a follow up visit to Ervin and Pamela's home, Ervin poured out his heart saying, "I want to change my life. I want to have peace in my home. I want to be able to work and give the children what they need." The ministry leaders prayed again with them and shared their need to forgive one another to begin the restoration of their marriage. The CHF volunteers invited them to a local church on Sunday to help them connect with a community of people who love and serve one another.
At the church, the pastor introduced the family to the congregation to and asked them to do what they could to help them. Several people came to them with financial offerings and promises to help them with whatever they needed. They were given $300 in cash, $250 in groceries and gift cards, a bedroom set of furniture, a new TV, and a Christmas tree. The congregation has continued to come alongside the family to help them through this hard time. Ervin and Pamela said they were humbled and grateful for all that God has done for their children and that they are looking forward to a new year bringing new joy.
With your help, CHF can serve them all year long. You can help CHF serve families just like these across America and around the world with your gift today.
CHF is ranked #1 out of 417 charities reviewed at Ministry Watch and hold a 4 star charity (highest rank) at Charity Navigator.
Children’s Hunger Fund (CHF) , established in 1995, has been given by Forbes Magazine the best classification they can give to a charity, showing the use of the funds CHF receives has a near 100% turn over to actual purchases of food and services for their recipients. And those who receive their assistance are some of the most destitute children on the planet.
"Serving children in need...across America and around the world" -CHF Mission statement
“Where hunger reigns in a third-world slum, we provide bulk food for hot meal programs. In the wake of a cyclone, earthquake, or hurricane, we provide funds for structures, kitchens, blankets, and fresh starts. When poverty threatens an inner-city family, we provide a box of staple foods and new hope for tomorrow. Through networks of local churches around the world, CHF uses the relational strategy of food delivered directly to the homes of the poor to engage them and offer help for their physical needs and open up opportunities for the Gospel to be shared.” Dave Phillips, President, Children’s Hunger Fund
