A Polish man drove into a lake after following the instructions of a satellite navigation system. I am half Polish myself (although not at liberty to discuss which half). I don't approve of ethnic jokes, but I couldn’t resist. Read on and...laugh.
According to news sources, no one can say exactly why the driver of the Mercedes mini-van despite a series of warning signs, drove up an abandoned road which led to a lake. The man and the two passengers escaped unharmed, but the vehicle was almost entirely submerged by the time emergency services arrived on the scene.
Polish police spokesman, Piotr Smolen, told the press:
“The man took a road that was closed a year ago when the area was flooded to make an artificial lake serving as a water reservoir. He ignored three road signs warning of a dead end. It was still night time and he didn’t notice the road led into the lake. His GPS told him to drive straight ahead and he did.”
The driver, whose identity was not revealed, made his first emergency call while he was still inside the sinking van. He then sat on the vehicle’s roof with his passengers as they waited not so patiently for assistance.
What can anyone say?
Listen to your GPS?
Wear life preservers?
Go, Poland?
