The speculation is that Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper will ask the Governor General today to suspend parliament thus prolonging the life of his minority government.
The buzz in Ottawa this morning is that Prime Minister Stephen Harper will visit Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean today to submit a formal request to have Parliament suspended until late January. This is seen as an attempt to prevent a confidence motion that could bring down the government.

The Prime Minister is anticipated to arrive at Jean's Rideau Hall residence in Ottawa at 9:30 a.m. ET.

The Governor General cut short a trip to central European in order to return to Canada to deal with the political crisis that has gripped the nation.

How the Governor General responds to the Prime Minister's request could make Canadian history.
