The intended coalition will have surprises for Dion and Layton. Most damaging will be the surprises for Canadians. The key to the coming consternation lies in the two egos that will rule Canada until this coalition disintegrates.
Any Canadian who not only hears but also really listens to the three opposition leaders, will have tuned into Duceppe and his intentions. I do not refer to his design for the separation of Quebec from Canada, but refer to Duceppe’s upcoming manipulative game. He will play his other two witless partners while they pretend to lead Canada. In fact, their collective actions will probably have extreme consequences, including an severe increase in Canada's national debt.
Duceppe’s ace in his game is Dion’s ego. Once the coalition is in charge, Dion will not be able to allow its disintegration, or allow its loss of confidence in any Parliamentary vote. His ego will not stand for it and his sense of insecurity cannot sustain the assault. To accomplish this Dion will be forced to accept anything Duceppe demands of him. Anything. Regardless what the cost, Dion will rationalize giving in to his fellow Quebecer.
The separatists will make hay while the sun shines and will reap as quickly as Duceppe can run his combine. Dion will be Duceppe’s shill until the Liberals replace him with another leader who will come from the ranks of cowards who will also have him humbled as sacrificial lamb.
Dion is out of his depth, not because he lacks intellect, but because his ego is in control of his actions. Meanwhile Duceppe cannot believe his good fortune. Other expectant Quebec royalty like Pauline Marois are already counting their blessings in billions, and she probably has a crown picked out for her anointing as Queen of Quebec. That is an unlikely future occurrence, however, since it appears that there are too many Kings in waiting in the corridors of Quebec City.
This coalition will prove to be an extremely expensive exercise for all Canadian taxpayers, and for Canada. Quebec will be forever grateful.
